Neurofilament light associated with cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment

A biomarker for neurodegeneration may provide the missing link between pathophysiological changes and cognitive performance in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), according to data presented at AAIC 2020.

The biomarker is neurofilament light (NfL), which is shed by damaged axons into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood, said Dr Isabelle Bos of VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
